Julia De Burgos Stamp

Hewgill was commissioned to illustrate the 26th stamp for the United States Postal Service Literary Arts series, commemorating the life of Puerto Rican poet Julia De Burgos. The stamp was designed and art directed by Howard Paine.

"My intention was to depict a strong, still woman, juxtaposed against the moving current of the water, symbolizing the deep emotions that also run like a current within her".
